• Beautiful Summer Evenings In Trondheim With Beautiful Long Sunsets
    Summer Mood of Trondheim.jpg
  • One of my favourite thing in Norway is its long days in the summer time. Here you can see the sunset in Ekne around 11 Pm. The very good thing about summer sunsets are their duration which last about one hour or more. I personally like this photo because of its composition. I would like very much to thank my very best friend for helping me in editing this photo. He is not only a good friend but also a talented photographer.

Gamle Bybro was constructed by Johan Caspar von Cicignon in 1681 in conjunction with the reconstruction of Trondheim after the great fire of 1681Johan Caspar von Cicignon laid out plans for the reconstruction of Trondheim as well as its fortification. Kristiansten Fortress was built at this time after his plans. The bridge location was of military-strategic significance. King Christian V of Denmark assumed the cost of construction. It was completed in 1685. The bridge was built in the vicinity of the original Elgeseter Bridge. When it was opened the older bridge was allowed to decay and collapse. Since then Gamle Bybro has undergone many changes. *Wikipedia

The national sanctuary of Norway, built over the grave of St. Olav. Work began in 1070, but the oldest parts still in existence date from the middle of the twelfth century. These are in the Romanesque style, while most of the cathedral is Gothic in style. The building was completed in about 1300, but after being damaged several times by fire, it lay largely in ruins at the time of the Reformation in 1537. In 1869 extensive restorations were begun, and a century later it was again restored to its original grandeur. The stained glass dates from the early 20th century. The sculptures on the west front are by leading Norwegian artists, and the most recent was erected in 1983. Below the nave is the crypt with headstones from the middle ages. (From Trondheim.com)

King Olav Haraldsson was buried by Nidelven, the river Nid, after he was killed in the battle of Stiklestad in1030.

Tradition has it that the high Altar of the Cathedral now stands on the exact spot of this burial site. One year and five days after he died the King was declared a saint, and pilgrims began to flock to Nidaros and the King's grave.

  • website: www.azinasutiphotography.com At Nidelva's outlet there have been seaside stalls, breweries and warehouses all the way from the oldest times. Here the towners traded with goods from far and near.

At the time of King Sverres, the bridges were also used as defense works. Towards the river, screens and times were built. From here you could throw stones on the enemy. In Magnus Lagabøte's city council of 1276, it is stated that the swallow, a passageway outside the bridges, should not be wider than three ales; further that between the brews should be "droplet" distance. The brewery that is still preserved is located on both sides of Nidelva - in Kjøpmannsgata, in Bakklandet, in Fjordgata and Sandgata. The oldest preserved breweries are from the mid-18th century.
